Candice Marie Sage
Biography

With 20 years of experience as a project manager of inter-disciplinary research in Canada and internationally, Candice is an expert in knowledge co-creation, translation and exchange. Work has involved extensive community engagement with a health equity lens and change management to effect sustainable outcomes. She’s been a research consultant in the domains of population and public health, cancer survivorship care, primary care systems and education, climate change and green economies, military and veterans’ health and early childhood education and care.

Candice has a BA Honours in History and a MA in Health Geography from Queen’s University. She is a PhD in Health Policy & Equity from York University with expertise in gendered health, social determinants, anti-oppression theories and dialogical action with marginalized populations. Her dissertation entitled “Youth Voices 4 Wellness” used constructivist grounded theory with an anti-oppression lens to explore youth wellness, focusing on gender differences and other sources of social inequity.

Her current research centres on PTSD and moral injury experienced by people with mental health and substance use challenges and their families within broader societal contexts.  She is interested in new treatment advances, like early detection of moral injury and the use of psychedelics, which could have global impact and address so much human suffering.

Now on her third career, Candice is indulging her passion for story-telling through creative writing as a “Cultural Myth Weaver” and explorer of archetypes. She is writing in the domains of aging and wellness, women’s sovereignty, ancient pagan and indigenous ways of knowing and being, and Celtic traditions. She has a regular column in Celtic Life International called Sage’s Circle where she explores traditional Wheel of Life pagan celebrations and their relevance to post-modern life.

Candice is the proud mother to two young adults. Her cat Taz rules the household now. She is an avid photographer, foodie and cook.
